Initial Teacher Training

Train to Teach with our Initial Teacher Training Programme

At Co-op Academies Trust, we believe in changing lives through education. We train future teachers to work with pupils, colleagues and communities – helping everyone succeed.

You’ll benefit from expert support, real classroom experience from day one, and a curriculum designed to help you grow confidently into a brilliant teacher.

Why Train at Co-op Academy Smithies Moor?

Training at Co-op Academy Smithies Moor gives you the chance to begin your career in a school that combines a strong curriculum with a clear sense of social purpose. Trainees are supported by experienced academy leaders and Trust specialists, giving you access to high-quality curriculum thinking and evidence-informed resources while you focus on developing confident, engaging classroom practice.

Inclusion is central to the academy’s culture. Our commitment to anti-racism encourages staff and pupils to challenge inequality and ensure every child feels seen, heard and valued. You’ll also see how wider skills such as leadership, creativity and problem-solving are deliberately developed through the curriculum, helping pupils connect their learning with their future aspirations.

Smithies Moor is a community school in the fullest sense, with close relationships with local families and a strong commitment to the Co-op Ways of Being. As a trainee, you’ll join a supportive team that values your wellbeing and professional growth, giving you the mentoring, experience and values-led foundation needed for a long and impactful career in education.
